Hello! My name is Genie Hughes. I teach 2nd/3rd grade at Susitna Elementary School in Anchorage, Alaska. This will be my eleventh year at Susitna.
Here's my life in a nutshell...
I was born in Germany and moved to the Olympia, Washington after I graduated from Heidelberg American High School. I did my undergraduate studies at The Evergreen State College. After that, I moved to Spokane, Washington to get an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. From there, it was on to Japan where I taught English to incoming freshman at Asia Daigaku for three years. Upon my return to the United States, I moved to Keene, New Hampshire to get my M.Ed at Antioch New England Graduate School. After graduation, I migrated about for a few years until serendipity knocked on my door, and I was offered a job here in Anchorage. I've been at Susitna the entire time.
I enjoy crafting, gardening, reading, drinking coffee, eating great food, visiting with friends, taking my dog, Lady, for walks, and playing chase with my cat, Callie.
What I love most about teaching is when children get excited about their learning and want to come to school everyday.
